Deokaran family 'in dark' over conclusion of probe
Updated | By Tamasha Khanyi
The family of
slain whistleblower Babita Deokaran says they've been kept in the dark about the investigation into her death.

"We were not advised about the so-called wrap of the investigation so whatever the new information is, it is the first I am hearing about it," says Deokaran's brother, Rakesh.
Last week, the Special Investigating Unit told the SABC it's finalising a probe into her murder.
The Gauteng Health official was gunned down in 2021 after exposing alleged tender corruption at Tembisa Hospital.
SIU head Andy Mothibi says their final report will be released to the public.
Deokaran's brother, Rakesh, hopes the findings will lead to a positive outcome and closure for his family.
He believes recent claims by KZN's top cop of political interference in criminal investigations may've influenced the case:
"From the time, he dropped those bomb shells, everything is coming to light and not just in regard to my sister but throughout the entire government. It goes to show how deep the roots are.
"From the outset, I said, those hitmen did not hire themselves. All we want to know is who is the mastermind or masterminds behind it. From inception, we have highlighted the importance of the protection of whistleblowers because they are rare, and it is totally incorrect for them to fear being honest and upstanding citizens."
