Delay in Werner de Jager bail application
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The husband of slain Amanzimtoti pastor Liezel de Jager returned to court on Wednesday for his bail application.

Forty-five-year-old is accused of the premeditated murder of his wife, who was found strangled in her home in 2021.
He arrived earlier at the Amanzimtoti Magistrate's Court and waited in the holding cells for his turn in the dock.
Proceedings were delayed, apparently due to technical difficulties with the recording equipment in court.

During his last appearance, the court heard Werner took out two life policies two months before his wife's death.
He later allegedly tried to claim from them. He is now also facing two counts of fraud.
The State has indicated it will be opposing bail on the grounds that it believes he is a danger to the public and witnesses and is a flight risk.
