Rawlins was shot dead just over a month ago in Ashburton.

Her brother was driving her home from a party when she came under fire on the road.

Her estranged husband Ian Rawlins handed himself over to police.

His bail application was heard in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday morning.

Delana's mother Wendy Hammond says her prayers have been answered.

"I am ecstatic. He got was he deserved and at the end of the day God always gets the glory because the lies he was using in court came back to bite him.

“If God could come through for me now, right through this co-trial I know he is going to go for life. That is my prayer."

Hammond has thanked the local community that has been showing up at court.

"I want to say a big thank you to the community for their prayers, they really stood with us.

“Every day they would phone and see it I am ok and there were times when I really wasn't doing ok and I didn't want to take a call, but they were saying, 'Wendy, we are there for you, we are praying for you.' My daughter really didn't deserve what she got from this man. She really tried."

The case has been postponed to next month to allow for the gathering of ballistics reports and photo albums.
