De Jager: Decision due on severity of charges
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A decision on the severity of the charge of murder facing the husband of slain Amanzimtoti pastor Liezel de Jager will be delivered on Friday.
Werner de Jager’s bail application is back in the Amanzimtoti Magistrates Court.
De Jager was arrested a year after Liezel was found strangled at their home in the south of Durban.
She was a reverend at the N G Kerk Suidkus.
During his last appearance, De Jager's attorney, André May, argued that his client should not be charged with premeditated murder.

He said that the issues brought forward by the state were unsupported.
The state claims De Jager took out a life policy two months before his wife’s death and later tried to claim.
There are also claims that her will was changed.
May told the court that policies taken out were done years prior to the murder and argued the change, which is in dispute, was done on the victim's own accord.
State prosecutor Gale Greyling, who is pushing for a schedule 6 bail hearing, told the court information, recording, will, and policies were clarified prior to court proceedings.
