Daughter of Durban man killed in house robbery speaks
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A grieving family says a Durban father who went after robbers who ransacked his son's home was fed-up with crime in Umbilo.
51-year-old Elroy Prince died in hospital on Tuesday night after the gang opened fire on him.
His daughter, Cindy Bell says they were celebrating her birthday when a group of men - armed with machine guns - stormed her brother's home on the same plot on River Drive.
She says the property gates were open as her brother had just driven in.
"When my mother saw them, she closed our door, and pressed the panic button. When they heard the alarm go off - that scared them away. They ran away. When they fled, my father decided to chase after them. Automatically, my brother went with."
Bell says her father and brother found the gang breaking into another home at the top of their road.
