DA welcomes decision not to merge uMgungundlovu municipalities
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The Democratic Alliance has welcomed the decision not to merge all municipalities under the uMgungundlovu District Municipality to form a metro.

The Municipal Demarcation Board rejected the proposal after the residents filed more than 10,000 objections with the board.
This has been an ongoing battle for the last three years of residents fighting against the ANC-backed proposal.

Mooi uMngeni constituency head Greg Krumbock says demarcation is more than just about spatial planning, as it also speaks to the ability to deliver services to residents.
"…and to fit the will of the electorate by political manipulation, when this could not be achieved through the ballot box."
"We will now continue with our clean and transparent governance with increasing service delivery in uMngeni, and once again, we thank the residents of our municipality for their unwavering support and trust."
