DA wants scandal-hit Ladysmith mayor to resign
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Democratic Alliance in Ladysmith is considering bringing a motion of no confidence against Alfred Duma Municipal Mayor Vincent Madlala.
Madlala and his daughter were released on bail last week after their arrest on charges of unlawful possession of firearms.
Constituency head Alf Lees says the criminal charges have brought the municipality into disrepute.
He says they will ask him to step down.
"The Alfred Duma Mayor has for some time been involved in a lot of controversies.

"In fact, in March last year as a result of processed action against him as mayor, the whole of Ladysmith town was shut down and it cost the economy huge amounts.
"So our view is that he should resign and work on clearing his name if he is innocent, but it's certainly at this point we need to protest the integrity of the council and that can only be done if he removes himself."
