There was no insurrection, insists Magashule
Suspended ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule doesn’t believe last month’s violence and looting was the result of an insurrection against government.
More than 300 people died after civil unrest broke out in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
The violence, which was sparked by the jailing of former president Jacob Zuma, was subsequently described as an insurrection by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
But speaking outside the High Court in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, Magashule said he doesn’t believe the president’s analysis is correct.
“If you have been involved in the underground in the army in the ANC, you will understand all these things that there is no such. Completely not.”
The corruption case against Magashule and his 15 co-accused was postponed to October.
The charges, which Magashule has denied, relates to a R255 million tender to remove asbestos during his time as premier of the province.
