DA wants KZN Agriculture to detail response to rabies outbreak
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
KZN Agriculture has been asked to clarify the extent of the rabies outbreak in the province.

The department says three people - including two children - died after they were bitten by rabid dogs. The DA's Sizwe Mchunu says we need to know if it's a crisis or not.
"Inspite of the fact that we are now faced with this outbreak - there doesn't seem to be necessary resources focused on the outbreak in terms of personnel and financial resources," he said.

Agriculture's Khaye Nkwanyana says they launched a vaccination campaign in various townships in Richards Bay yesterday in response to the outbreak. He says more more than 275 dogs were vaccinated.
"Throughout this month, even after Easter, we will be rolling it out inland. For now, we are focusing on coastal areas. That's Durban, Tongaat, Stanger, Port Shepstone and Richards Bay. That's where the new outbreak emanated from in the last three weeks," he said.
Nkwanyana says R6-million in additional funding - has been set aside to tackle the outbreak.
