Some R6 million has been set aside to tackle the latest rabies outbreak in KZN. That's according to the province's Agriculture Department.

The outbreak has been traced along a coastal belt from the south coast, through Durban and northwards towards Empangeni and Richards Bay.

Agriculture's Khaye Nkwanyana says the most recent vaccination campaign took place in October last year.

He says it's unusual for another outbreak to follow so soon.

"We anticipate that we are not going to vaccinate less than 200 000 combined. The KZN coastal area is the longest within the SADC so theres' a discussion to extend the vaccinations to Kosi Bay, near Mozambique. We will attend to the entire coast," Nkwanyana said.
