DA seeks SAHRC intervention over KZN flood victims' housing woes
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal has requested a meeting with the South African Human Rights Commission over what it calls local government's failure to assist residents left homeless by the floods.
Provincial leader Francois Rodgers submitted a memorandum of demands to the Commission at its offices in Durban on Monday.
Dozens of victims are still waiting for temporary residential units six months after the devastating floods.

Rodgers says the HRC should have intervened by now.
"I also requested an in-person meeting with the Human Rights Commission so that we can try and find a way to hold eThekwini and the province of KwaZulu-Natal responsible for dealing with the issues of the flood victims being housed and the collapse of the sanitation system in eThekwini and the response to date has been dismal."
