Kaunda: All flood victims to be relocated by December
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says they plan to relocate
all flood victims from every mass care centre in the city by December.

He says there are currently 52 mass care centres still in operation.
"The plan to close one hall per week has resulted in the closure of Bester, Amaoti, Kloof, Ngoqokazi and Clermont mass care centres."
“We do this by relocating families to newly-build temporary residential units,” Kaunda said on Thursday.
“Our intention is to ensure that all flood victims are relocated from mass care centres before December."
Kaunda held a joint press conference alongside the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Durban City Hall.

The mayor outlined his plan of action for the state of the city’s beaches, vagrancy, and water and sanitation infrastructure repairs among others.
Kaunda said 1149 households currently remain displaced.
"We are pleased that construction is underway on 1185 sites that the city has made available to the provincial Department of Human Settlements.
"Great progress has also been made to procure transitional emergency accommodation which includes state and privately-owned properties."
