DA: Ministerial Handbook allows ministers to hire more staff

The Democratic Alliance claims President Cyril Ramaphosa has given the green light to the hiring of more staff for members of the executive - at a cost of R87 million to the taxpayer.
The latest claims follow the revelation that the Ministerial Handbook was altered in April to also provide free water and electricity to ministers.
The latest handbook shows that the number of ministerial private staff has not been limited to 11, as was promised, but has instead increased to 15 instead.

"In the latest version of the handbook, Ramaphosa created a range of additional posts in the offices of ministers and deputy ministers, including things like drivers, messengers and so-called food aids,” says the DA's Leon Schreiber.
"He also increased the salary of certain staff positions. In total, these changes will cost taxpayers R87 million more every single year."
