ANC doesn't support Electoral Bill 'in current form'
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
The ANC says it doesn't support the controversial Electoral Amendment Bill in its current form.
The bill, which has also come under fire from civil society organisations, deals with the participation of independent candidates in national and provincial elections.
It's on its way to the National Assembly for consideration.
Speaking at the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation at the weekend, the ANC's Snuki Zikalala says the party is willing to engage civil society on certain aspects of the bill.
"For us, especially as veterans, we monitor the situation and make sure that the ANC accounts to society and that they meet with members of civil society and ANC serves society. That's what we ensure happens and of course reexamine the re-election bill and make sure that we see who we are in terms of representatives to society."
