DA heads to court over govt’s ‘unclear’ vaccine rollout plans

The
Democratic Alliance (DA) has filed court papers in an attempt
to force President Cyril Ramaphosa to provide more details
on government’s vaccine rollout plan.

The country is expected to receive the Astra Zeneca vaccine by February 1.
However, it is still not clear how government is set to distribute the vaccine.
DA leader John Steenhuisen last week warned Ramaphosa that his party would pursue legal action if the president failed to give clear plans within seven days.

Federal council chairperson Helen Zille says, as the official opposition, it is the party’s duty to hold government accountable.
"Well, if people haven't learned by now what the government says and what it does are two different things, they have been living in another country or under a rock.

"Because even with this crisis we had all kinds of promises from ‘just give three weeks’ to ‘fix the health sector system and to prepare it and there won't be any corruption’," she said.
"One after another promises are broken, one after the other. Our job as the official opposition is to make sure the promises are kept."
Zille was speaking on the party's 'Insight from Inside' programme on YouTube on Wednesday morning.
