DA to continue fight to have Gumede axed as eThekwini mayor
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Now that the ANC's told eThekwini mayor, Zandile Gumede not to come back to work again, the DA's hoping its second attempt to try to keep her out of office for good is successful.
The opposition party has been commenting after the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal announced that it had extended Gumede's leave of absence.

DA caucus leader in the city, Nicole Graham says they are moving ahead with a motion to remove Gumede from the Executive Committee."We will hopefully be tabling that at the end of the month," she said.
The party failed to table a motion of no confidence against the mayor last month.
Graham says the ruling party needs to show that it is serious about rooting out corruption in the municipality.
"The ANC has shown it is not serious about sorting this stuff out. It is up to us in council to get something done."
Gumede was placed on special leave in May after she was arrested in connection with a multi-million Rand waste removal tender, dating back to 2016.
Gumede faces charges of fraud, corruption and racketeering.
She was released on R50,000 bail and is due back in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court tomorrow.
The ANC told reporters yesterday that Gumede's leave of absence has been extended to allow for the party to finalise all issues pertaining to municipalities.
Provincial secretary, Mdumiseni Ntuli said the extension of the leave period should not be one that affects service delivery.
Deputy mayor, Fawzia Peer has been acting mayor in Gumede's absence.
Meanwhile, Gumede's supporters remain firmly behind her. They are due to hold a night vigil for the mayor tonight.
