DA calls for full accountability on the part of President Zuma

The DA has welcomed the news that the President has paid back R7.8-million he was liable for in the Nkandla upgrades -  but maintains it's only the tip of the iceberg in what it has described as a corruption-plagued saga.

Treasury and the Presidency have confirmed that payment has been made by president Jacob Zuma.

He was compelled to pay back the money after the ConCourt ruled that he had violated his oath of office by failing to implement the remedial action contained in Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela's Secure in Comfort report following investigations into R246-million rand upgrades.

The  DA's Mabine Seabe says it's important that the President provides proof to the National Assembly, that he personally paid the money and that the VBS Mutual Bank is not just a front.

"Because President Jacob Zuma has a tendency of tapping into his circle of cronies when it comes to monetary matters. Further more, we're asking for an update on Mr. Minenhle Makhanya, the architect - with regards to his responsibility there; as well as the 12 Department of Public Works employees who are facing disciplinary hearings," he said.

Meanwhile - the EFF, which took the matter to the Constitutional Court, says it will release a statement later.
