DA calls for parliamentary inquiry over slow jab rollout
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it wants an ad hoc committee established to look into government's handling of the Covid-19 vaccine rollout.
The party says it'll be writing to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Thandi Modise, to have the inquiry set up.
DA spokesperson Siviwe Gwarube says it should get to the bottom of the slow rollout.
"This entire committee's entire function would be to investigate why in 15 months we've only been able to vaccinate such a low number of people and will be able to through the findings of this committee be able to put pressure on government to be able to get to its targets that it needs to get of vaccinating 40 million people."

Since the beginning of the country's vaccination programme in March, approximately 1.7 million people have been inoculated.
DA Shadow Minister of Finance Geordin Hill-Lewis says the third wave could have been avoided if the rollout was efficient.
"That is why we are calling for a full-scale parliamentary injury, to find out exactly where this went wrong, what mistakes were made and by how and how should be accountable for them."
