Over 7 000 Covid-19 patients in SA hospitals

South Africa has 7 778 patients currently admitted in both public and private hospitals due to Covid-19.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says a total of 284 512 admissions have been reported in the country since the virus was first detected in March 2020.
“An increase of 936 hospital admissions and 153 in-hospital deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours,” reads the statement by the institution.
The national death toll stands at 57 879.
The latest report shows that 5 552 new Covid-19 cases have been identified in the country in the last 24 hours.

This brings the country’s total cases to 1,752,630.
The majority of new cases today are from the Gauteng province (67%), followed by the Western Cape (8%) and North West (5%) provinces.
Gauteng confirmed a total of 3 720 new infections on Monday.
On the vaccine front, 1 777 288 Covid-19 vaccines have been administered.
The country’s recovery rate has dropped further to 91,9%.
