DA demands audit of SAPS DNA Labs amid 140 000 backlog
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
The DA is calling for the Auditor-General to conduct a forensic audit of the police's DNA processing.
It is after the South African Police Service Forensic Science Laboratory revealed there is a 140 000 case backlog this week.
The DA believes outdated, broken instruments and poor storage conditions are to blame.
The party's Ian Cameron says the SAPS’s failure to manage and analyse DNA evidence has resulted in a sabotage of justice.

"Commander at forensic creates the impression like they are some minor mishaps that have caused a slight backlog.
"This is the difference between 140 000 violence and sexual victims walking away without any form of justice and the possibility for seeing any kind of justice.
"We demand an audit competency of the relevant persons leadership position regarding the lab and forensic," said Cameron.
