DA chief whip John Steenhuisen says the party would not be putting the motion before Parliament, if it didn't think there were prospects for success.

His comments come after Parliament scheduled the motion for 3 August

The motion had been delayed pending the Constitutional Court outcome on the issue of a secret ballot.

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) approached the court, asking it to give Parliament the go-ahead to allow MPs to vote in secret during a motion of no confidence.

The UDM have since won their Constitutional Court battle - with the ball now in Speaker Baleka Mbete's court.

She is yet to decide on whether she will allow a secret ballot.

Mbete has asked all parties to take advantage of the National Assembly rules and register their viewpoints on a secret ballot formally by 14 July.
