Covid-19 related deaths continue to climb

The number of Covid-19 related deaths showed another massive increase, with 555 new fatalities reported in the latest 24-hour period.

According to statistics released by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Tuesday, South Africa’s Covid-19 death toll now stands at 72 992.
New cases recorded by the Institute increased by 8 988, bringing the country’s total cases to 2 470 746.
Tuesday's new infection rate marks an 19.8% increase in the number of people who tested positive on the day.

The Western Cape and Gauteng account for the majority of news cases, both at 25%, followed by KwaZulu-Natal on 19% and the Eastern Cape at 9%.
Hospital admissions also continue to increase with 636 reported in just 24 hours.
