The sister of a Tongaat teenager who was murdered, allegedly after stealing liquor from a local tavern, has told of the day a neighbour ran to tell them her brother was being beaten up in a locked room.

Andile 'Bobo' Mbuthu was murdered in 2020 during lockdown.
His body was found dumped in a river in Hambanathi in May of that year.
His sister on Wednesday took the stand in the trial of the six accused in the Verulam Magistrate's Court.
Tavern owner Mlungisi Thabethe, who was another accused, died last year in a shooting.
Bobo's sister, 24-year-old Sindiswa Ntshangase, told the court how she and her two other sisters ran to Magagula tavern upon getting the news about their brother.

She says when they got there, she was taken through to a room where Bobo was lying in a pool of blood surrounded by sticks, believed to be used in an ongoing assault.
Ntshangase detailed how her little brother's one eye was shut due to the beatings and how he did not respond when she shook him, nor did he show signs of breathing.
That would be the last time she would see him as one of the accused suggested she go home and fetch her brother a change of clothes.
Ntshangase says when she returned, she was told Bobo had escaped.
That's when the family went to the local police station to open a case only to find his burnt body serval weeks later.
The case continues.
