Court dismisses union's appeal to stop SABC retrenchment

Efforts to save some 400 jobs at the SABC have been dealt a blow.
Union Bemawu had filed an urgent application to have the broadcaster's retrenchment process declared irregular and invalid.
But the Labour Court has rejected the application.
BEMAWU's Hannes du Buisson says the dismissal, with costs, has come as a surprise to them.
We are obviously shocked by the judgement of the court, we think that it sends the wrong message to workers who are approaching the court on the basis of the employees stand to lose their jobs as a result of no fault on their side.

It could be found that the court is turning away from the union and employees who come to complain about the fact that a fair process that is not being followed.
The SABC is drowning in debt with reported projections a R1 billion loss in the current financial year.
