An application by an ex-top cop to appeal his corruption conviction will be heard on Friday.
KZN NPA spokesperson - Natasha Kara says Simon Madonsela was sentenced yesterday.
The former deputy head of the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) the Hawks, in KwaZulu-Natal, was sentenced to an effective eight years imprisonment in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crimes Court yesterday after being convicted of two counts of corruption amounting to R28 000," said Kara.
The NPA says Madonsela had solicited a bribe from the family of a missing woman.

His unit is said to have subsequently closed the docket.
Investigators say Madonsela then approached her family and demanded R40 000 to keep the investigation going.
The family couldn't afford the full amount and instead paid him R25 000 and a further R3000 on request.
They then reported the matter to the police.
