President Jacob Zuma announced six changes to the National Executive today.

Blade Nzimande was sacked as Higher Education Minister while David Mahlobo was moved from State Security to the Energy portfolio.

Cosatu's Siswe Pamla says as an alliance partner, Zuma did not consult them but merely informed them of his decision this morning.

"We don't have an economy that can survive this level of instability and uncertainty. Unfortunately there are consequences for these kinds of decisions and we are not convinced as COSATU that the decision was made in order to strengthen or better implement government developmental agenda or the national democratic revolution," he said.

Pamla says the reshuffle will not help relations within the alliance.

"The alliance is in a state of paralysis. We keep hoping that sooner or later sanity will prevail and those who still believe will strongly defend the alliance and continue to work hard to make sure that the alliance is not killed by either an individual or a faction," he said.
