Cosatu bemoans ‘bloated’ cabinet

The Congress of South African Trade Unions on Monday said that while it welcomes the diverse representation in the new cabinet, it's disappointed at the size of the executive.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced his new executive at the Union Buildings on Sunday evening, the first under the new government of national unity.
Former opposition parties were handed 12 out of 32 portfolios, while the ANC kept 20 out of 32 cabinet positions.
They included key ministries such as foreign affairs, finance, defence, justice and police.
The federation's Matthew Parks expects the government of national unity to prioritise unlocking the economy, creating jobs, reducing poverty and inequality, and ensuring inclusive growth.

Parks said Cosatu will monitor all parties in the GNU closely to ensure they deliver on their mandates.
"We are a little disappointed that the number of deputy ministers increased by such a significant amount. We will work with the government across all government and deputy ministers to help them succeed. We will work with ministers so that they implement the ANC manifesto and improve the lives of ministers."
During his announcement, Ramaphosa lauded the new national unity government as unprecedented.
"The incoming government will prioritise rapid, inclusive and sustainable economic growth and the creation of a more just society by tackling poverty and inequality as well as unemployment," he said.
