Corruption, jobs among issues opposition parties want Zikalala to address

As Premier Sihle Zikalala works on his State of Province Address, political party leaders have been sharing what they expect to be in the speech.

The address will take place on Thursday at the Royal Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg.


Inkatha Freedom Party president Velenkosini Hlabisa says Zikalala has to speak on corruption.


"There are so many investigations done in various departments where it is discovered that corruption was done.

"We want to hear what actions were taken by the premiere against those people and against the companies who benefited unfairly. Has the money been followed to be recollected or the assets to be taken away from those people?"


KZN Democratic Alliance leader Francois Rodgers says the premier needs to come with a clear plan with time frames.


"Time for populous rhetoric is over. If we are going to deal with housing, water, economy, job creation, then we need deliverables. We need time frames so that we can ensure that these are met." 


Economic Freedom Fighters KZN chairperson Vusi Khoza says although they don't expect much from the premier, they hope he addresses crime.

"We want to hear what it is he is going to do about that fact that KZN has now overtaken the Western Cape as the murder capital of South Africa. He needs to tell us what he is going to do to reserve crimes like murder, GBV and cash-in-transit."
