Intimidation allegations against DG in KZN premier’s office detailed in court

The Durban Commercial Crimes Court has heard details of the alleged involvement of the director-general in the KZN premier's office in a fraud and corruption matter at Mhlathuze Water.
Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize is facing charges of intimidation, defeating the ends of justice and fraud, along with Siphiwe Mabaso, Sthembelo Mhlanga and Mthokozisi Duze.
It's related to an investigation into irregular appointments of service providers to a panel at the water utility.
The board's chairperson alleges she received a visit at her home and was threatened to stop the probe.

The state alleged in court on Wednesday that Mkhize was the one who first contacted the chairperson of the board, telling her to expect a call from an ex-NIA agent to discuss the report.
The court heard that accused number two, Siphiwe Mabaso, then met with the chairperson at her home.
In court, Mkhize's attorney argued that Mabaso approached her and asked for the chairperson's phone number.
The court heard she was not aware what Mabaso wanted to discuss with the chairperson.
