Coronavirus: KZN university students refuse to vacate res, go home
While tertiary institutions around the country have been heeding the call to implement the measures put in place to curb the spread on COVID-19, some students at Mangosuthu University of Technology have been refusing to vacate their residences.
The Durban University has suspended all academic activities.
On Wednesday, it gave students 72-hours to leave the residences and go home.
But some students weren't budging.
MUT's spokesperson, Azwi Mufamadi says the university is only trying to protect them.
Very few of them are leaving and we want to appeal to as many parents, guardians and friends of the students to encourage them to leave.

Mufamadi says the students are underestimating the magnitude of the virus. "If they do stay and one of them gets exposed, they are endangering the entire residence," he said.
Meanwhile, the University of Cape Town has confirmed their third case of COVID-19. The institution says a project manager contracted the virus from a colleague who tested positive earlier.
