COVID-19 restrictions: No one above the law
As measures are introduced to contain the spread of the coronavirus our police minister says no one is above the law - not even religious leaders.
Leaders from different faiths met with the President on Thursday to discuss ways to help curb the spread of the virus. Many have heeded government's plea to limit public gathering to not more than 100 people.
At a briefing yesterday Minister Bheki Cele said he had learnt that some religious leaders were planning to go ahead with mass Easter events.
He says they will face the music.
"Some few churches have indicated they would defy government's restriction of numbers when it comes to gatherings. To these we say they will witness the the authority of the state in action", Cele said.
"We will on those organisers, even if reverends. Churches in this country are subjected to the law of the land", he said.
