Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Police Minister Bheki Cele says any officer mistreating an abused woman or child must be dealt with harshly.

He was in Umlazi, in the south of Durban, on Saturday in a consultative engagement with township leaders, such as Community Policing Forum members.
Cele was joined by community safety MEC Sipho Hlomuka and KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

He also spoke about the rise in the number of rapes and murders in the township.
"We must come close to families with it comes to rape. Last quarter in three months 10 000 women were rape in South Africa, 50% of them were raped in their houses."
