The National Teachers Union (Natu) has called for a suspect who allegedly attacked a teacher at a KwaZulu-Natal school to face the full might of the law.

The incident took place at the Saraswati Primary School in Tongaat on Friday.
The union's Doctor Ngema says it's alleged that the school's principal and the educator had been involved in an argument.

Ngema says they have been told that the exchange was over salary deductions.
"That educator was attacked by kitchen staff who hit her with a stick on the head and that resulted in a serious injury.
"Allegedly, that cook acted in support of the principal, who referred to the principal as her brother. A case was opened at Tongaat SAPS and the cook and another teacher were arrested for charges of assault."
