Consumer Commission leads food inspections in Durban CBD
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
The National Consumer Commission says it's teamed up with various law enforcement agencies to target shops - in and around the Durban CBD - selling expired food.
The inspections began yesterday and will continue until World Consumer Rights Day on Friday.
The commission says it'll also conduct compliance check inspections with eThekwini Municipal officials.
The NCC's Trevor Hattingh says they'll be holding workshops this week to educate consumers about their rights.
"We also have workshops taking place in various townships - in particular at community halls in Umlazi, and Isipingo. We have a whole host of others. We will be going to Pinetown as well.

"So we have education and awareness workshops where we educate consumers and people in communities - what they need to know about their consumer rights and for example, identifying items that have passed their best before date."
