ConCourt win for rape survivor hailed as victory for others

A Constitutional Court ruling in favour of a Gqeberha gang-rape survivor is being welcomed as a victory for many others.
Andy Kawa is suing the police for R5.8 million.
She wants to hold Police Minister Bheki Cele and SAPS liable for allegedly failing to do a proper job in investigating her ordeal 12 years ago.
The businesswoman had been taking a stroll on Kings Beach in 2010 when she was abducted, robbed and raped.

Her rapists have still not been caught.
In 2018, the Port Elizabeth High Court found that the South African Police Service had been negligent in the investigation.
The police minister appealed the judgment and the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned it.
Kawa went to the apex court, which on Tuesday found the police search and investigation had been below standard and negligent.
