Concern over spate of cop killings in KZN
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The key driver behind the spate of recent police killings comes in the form of illegal firearms.

That is the view of the Community Safety Department following the murder of an off-duty police officer.
40-year-old Constable Sibongiseni Mnguni was shot while in his car in Isipingo on Sunday.
He was rushed to hospital but died a short while later.
Mnguni's death comes four days after the murder of a 28-year-old policeman in Mbazwana in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
MEC Willies Mchunu is urging communities to work closely with the police to bring the perpetrators to book.
His spokesperson Sipho Khumalo says the department will implement more campaigns next year to stop the killings.
''Police are the first line of defence between the defenceless people and fully armed criminals therefore they should be given support at all times.
''The only way to end police killings is to seize all illegal firearms from criminals. In November we launched a massive campaign to recover the unlicensed guns,'' he said.
