uMsunduzi says two ward councillors who allegedly advised residents to chase away water meter readers are under investigation.
Municipal manager Lulamile Mapholoba says the officials were reportedly forced to leave properties in the Vulindlela Ward 2 and Imbali Ward 17 areas recently.
He says the officials, who are believed to have encouraged this behaviour, are due to appear before a special committee next week.

"The allegation is that one councillor in Ward 2 chased our meter readers away with a car. In Ward 17, there was an issue where the ward councillor circulated information encouraging residents not to make themselves available.
"They will appear before a special committee that has been established to verify the allegations and to make recommendations to council."
