Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says officials are working on keeping stages of
load shedding as low as possible.
He made the remarks during a press briefing on Friday, shortly after Eskom implemented stage 6 load shedding.
The power utility said the move was due to the failure of five generating units.
It suspects the heatwave contributed to the situation.
Ramokgopa said stage 6 will last throughout the weekend.
"We want to give you the assurance that we are doing everything possible. Now, the immediate relief they seek is to go to lower stages and ultimately go to significantly lower stages. We will deliver on our promise that we eliminate load shedding."
