Colleagues pay tribute to slain South Coast officer
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The colleagues of the late Constable Siyabonga Mbele have paid tribute to him.
The slain officer was honoured as police in KZN launched their Back to Basics Programme in Clermont yesterday.
Mbele was gunned down outside his residence in Mthwalume on the south coast while off-duty on Wednesday night.
Speaking at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium, National Deputy Police Commissioner Christen Mngwenya paid her respects, and wished another officer injured in the shooting a speedy recovery.

Mngwenya says crime intelligence is critical - but the different police departments and functions must work together. She says gathering intelligence is the responsibility of all police:
"The Back to Basics approach centres around a few critical and organisational concerns - amongst which they include discipline, police visibility and the targeted, informed deployment to ensure maximum utilisation of the SAPS limited resources which we believe will assist us towards redeeming ourselves," he said.
