Know your HIV status: KZN police
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
KwaZulu-Natal police officers are being urged to get tested and know their HIV status.
That is according to Captain Zakhe Duma speaking at an event at the Sugar Ray Xulu stadium to commemorate World Aids Day.
The men and women in blue are also remembering their own with a candle light ceremony at the stadium in Clermont, west of Durban.
Captain Duma has told Newswatch that the South African Police Service has programmes in place to assist the families of those who have died as well as programmes promoting prevention.
"Awareness of HIV and Aids is all about your own wellness. So as SAPS we are having employee health and wellness with a group of social workers, psychologists, and chaplains. Today, members are being tested to find their status," he said.
Earlier today, Deputy National police Commissioner, Christene Mngwenya lit a candle of remembrance showing their support for those living with the disease and remembering those who have lost the battle.
