COGTA's Durban offices ransacked

Security guards at the KwaZulu-Natal Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs offices in Durban have been held up and the offices ransacked.

A group of masked men are said to have forced their way onto the premises in Mayville this morning.

Computer screens, laptops and TVs were stolen.

An employee who was also held up at gunpoint also had their vehicle taken from the parking lot.

The car was later recovered in Newlands West, north of the city.

The department says it is shocked by the robbery.

COGTA's Senzelwe Mzila says they are offering counselling to affected staff.

"Thankfully there were no injuries reported in this incident, but our staff are traumatised," said Mzila.

He says the department is unsure why the offices were targeted, but says a case has been opened with police.

MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube is urging communities with any information on who might have been responsible for the robbery to come forward.
