These are the province's two municipalities that have failed to establish a local government following the 2016 Local Government Elections.

The ANC and NFP hold 16 council seats in Nquthu while the IFP, DA and EFF have 17.

The ANC has 19 seats in Jozini while the IFP has 18, the DA and EFF one each and an independent candidate also has a single seat.

Both local municipalities have been unable to hold council meeting due to a deadlock.

A court order - reportedly obtained by the EFF - stated all municipal meetings are to be suspended until pending a court rules on disputes within the party when it comes to electing a councillor.

Earlier this week, the department released a statement saying they are seeking legal advice on this matter.

The NFP's Vikizitha Mlotshwa told reporters in Durban yesterday that they're concerned about the delays.

"If they fail to make sure that these municipalities are in place - the MEC must intervene as these municipalities were supposed to be in place by the 17th," he said.

The NFP also spoke about plans to host a political rally to prove in KwaDukuza, iLembe.
