Another delay in establishing Nquthu municipality council
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The EFF reportedly obtained a court order suspending all municipal meetings pending a court determination of disputes within the party when it comes to a councillor.
Council meetings are suspended until the court pronounces itself on the legitimate EFF representative.
The uMkhanyakude and uMzinyathi District Municipalities have been unable to hold their first council meetings as there was no definite winner following the local government elections.
The department released a statement yesterday saying that it's engaging with a legal advisor to address the crisis.
Spokesperson, Lennox Mabaso says at this point in time their interests will be to ensure that service delivery does not get disrupted.
"The municipality needs to be able to function but as you know the municipality will not function effectively without this local government," he said.
Last week the department said it was studying legal options to intervene in hung municipalities which were not able to reach agreements.
