KwaZulu-Natal's mayors and municipal managers must be held accountable for poor performing municipalities and wasteful expenditure.

Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, Sipho Hlomuka has been responding to the latest municipal audit results.
He says senior officials - found to have squandered public funds - should pay the money back from their own pockets.
"The MEC is urging all municipalities to analyse the Auditor General findings and implement immediate consequence management measures," The department's Lennox Mabaso said.
According to the Auditor General's report only 18 municipalities out of 257 received clean audits in the 2017/18 financial year.
Irregular expenditure stands at R25-billion.
