Clover to meet with unions following urgent court interdict

Clover says its management is again meeting with trade union leaders on Friday to try a resolve a pay dispute and other issues as a worker strike drags on.

The industrial action began in November over wages and retrenchments.

Workers have rejected Clover's 4.5% wage increase offer.

Unions have also accused the food and beverage of not delivering on the jobs it promised when it was being acquired by dairy company, Milco SA.

"We are very clear on what we have proposed to them which we feel if a reasonable alternative," says Clover's Steven Velthuysen.

"We feel that the unions should consider it strongly. We feel that we have come to the party and come to the table with reasonable offers. It's now up to the unions to take that up with their constituencies and who they want to go about it going forward."

Earlier this week, Clover was granted a court interdict ordering unions to denounce all forms of violence and intimidation against non-striking workers.

Velthuysen says employees have a right to strike.

"What we don't agree with is the intimidation of workers, destruction of property and the disruption of businesses and for that reason we went to court to stop them from doing so and we have put in all the measures in place to ensure that those that transgresses the law will be taken to task."
