Clive Barker to be remembered at special provincial funeral

President Cyril Ramaphosa has granted former Bafana Bafana coach Clive Barker a special provincial funeral.

The KZN government submitted the request for a category 2 ceremony. 

 

Barker will be laid to rest in Durban on Thursday, with mourners including the premier and members of the football fraternity gathering to pay their respects at the Olive Convention Centre.

The legendary coach passed away on Saturday morning following a short battle with dementia. 

 

"We welcome the honour bestowed upon him by the President of our country," says the premier's office's Gugu Sisilana.

 

"It is a befitting recognition of Clive “The Dog” Barker for his role as an exemplary sports leader, who dedicated his life to the development of football at the grassroots level, empowering his players and breaking race barriers on the field.
