Climate change means world 'can no longer stand by'

A marine ecotoxicologist in KZN says the world can no longer stand by and watch as the effects of climate change wreak havoc on our environment.

Refilwe Mofokeng's sentiments come as world leaders wrap up COP27 talks in Egypt on Friday. 

 

She's taken part in a beach clean-up at Durban's harbour. 

 

Several groups including local health officials shared environmental insights with dignitaries from other countries.

"The message we were carrying was that the time is now to act and we need to do it for ourselves. 

We need to realise that we cannot do business as usual because the conditions are getting worse and direr as time goes by."

 

An association focusing on healthy ecosystems and people EcoHealth, the University of KwaZulu Natal and the Department of Health took part in the beach clean-up.
