COP27: Enviro groups say action critical to achieving climate goals
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Environmental groups
say African countries need to forge partnerships that support South Africa's
Just Energy Transition Investment Plan.
Greenpeace Africa says it agrees with President Cyril Ramaphosa, who addressed delegates at COP27, that countries’ climate plans need more action and less talk.
Speaking in Egypt yesterday, Ramaphosa said that African countries need to band together and support each other in reaching their commitments.
The organisation says, in addition to this, foreign governments need to work with Africa to support the investment plan. Makoma Lekalakala, who is Earthlife Africa’s director is also attending the conference.

"Whatever announcements have been made by any president or whatever pledges are made, they need to be implemented. This is a conference of the parties. That is for implementation.
"The climate debt needs to be paid, and climate operations need to be available and that would assist in making those who have been hard hit by climate change to improve their lives and also be able to adapt to the harsh realities of the negative impacts of climate change.”
