Clicks protests: Police arrest EFF MP and 9 others

Police Minister, Bheki Cele says law enforcement officers will be on high alert - after several Clicks stores were damaged during protests, led by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), this week.

Police have confirmed that ten people, including an EFF Member of Parliament, have been arrested on charges relating to the destruction of property. 


The MP's also been charged with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. 


The health and beauty retailer closed on Wednesday, saying it's offering staff across the country, counselling and support. 


The demonstrations were over a digital advert which described black, natural hair as dry and damaged.

Cele says while the TRESemme ad must be condemned - there needs to be caution in retaliation. 


He says an investigation's under way after a 52-year-old woman allegedly pointed a firearm at EFF members inside a mall in Port Elizabeth. 


Cele's Spokesperson Lirandzu Themba said: "Police Minister, Bheki Cele has denounced the acts of vandalism and malicious damage to property at various businesses including a Clicks store that that petrol bombed in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga on Monday."
