Civil groups wants Gupta brothers extradition 'soon'
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A civil society group says it hopes the wheels of justice now turn without any obstacles, following the arrests of corruption-accused brothers Atul and Rajesh Gupta.
The fugitives were nabbed in Dubai, with South African authorities now in talks with law enforcement agencies in the UAE on how to move forward.
Dudu Mmeti, who's with the Defend Our Democracy campaign, says they hope they'll be extradited soon.
"This would be an important victory for many civil society organisations like ourselves and ordinary citizens who have consistently called for justice and accountability on this matter.
"It will also be a significant and welcomed development for the country as it tries to undo years of damage caused by systemic repurposing of the state and capture and corruption."
Their arrests came after Interpol issued a red notice last year.

The wealthy Indian-born business brothers - including Ajay - were allegedly at the centre of massive state corruption for several years.
Opposition party Cope says the arrest is good news.
"The Guptas thought that they are untouchable and that they had dirty stolen money will keep them out of jail,” says spokesperson Dennis Bloem.
"This is a very strong message to all out there that nobody is above the law."
